MISSION:
For teenagers to talk openly through this website about the hidden biases we face at school, from friends
IMPLICIT or HIDDEN BIAS is where our stereotyping of other people runs so deep that we are saying hurtful words to our friends, but we don’t even know it. In fact, in our own eyes, we are good kids free of bias.
I created this website as part of my overall #GenZFightsBias mission.
Every one of us is guilty of some kind of bias. Turns out a lot of our prejudices are so implicit (hidden), we ourselves don’t know they exist within us—then how do we fix what we don’t even know? It is by reading stories and snippets from other kids from around the world, we can improve ourselves, and rid ourselves of similar biases that are hiding within us.
Ageism, sexism, racism, elitism, “athletism,” heightism, lookism, ableism, linguicism, weightism, “richism” - we may not even know these words, but we are dishing them out daily.
Linked here is a storytelling tool where you can write freely about your own examples of hidden biases your classmates and friends may have towards you. Have they, knowingly or often unknowingly, made you feel sad or left out because you seem different from them in some way?
Speak freely so that others can read and learn.
Together we can build a kinder, more thoughtful, less biased world!
